Yearbook 2015/16: “Sustainable Consumption and Production: Towards a Circular Economy”
Topic
Once more this year, the Global Sustain mission is to challenge, inspire and raise awareness about another critical sustainability issue. “Sustainable Consumption and Production: Towards a Circular Economy” is the theme of Yearbook, the prominent global publication, that aims to trigger for the ninth consecutive year a global discussion. Global Sustain is preparing the forthcoming publication in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and specifically with the Regional Activity Center for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP/RAC) of the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP). In times where material wealth is cherished, global population is rapidly rising and there is ever-growing consumption, the process by which products and services are delivered to our doors has become increasingly complex and global. On the other hand, decisions and actions taken by consumers may have a serious impact on the environment and consumers lack the necessary information in order to make smart decisions. In a word of approximately nine billion people by 2050 according to UN forecasts, the challenge is to manage these interdependencies in a way that human development makes advances without causing harm to the environment and our planetary boundaries. Sustainable consumption and production gives as an opportunity to harness creativity to enable a better future. It maximizes our business potential to transform environmental challenges into economic opportunities, innovation, restorative industry, job creation and better life quality.
